Women's Business Grants - Women's Financial Fund

Top ten tips for getting your business grant application accepted
BONUS Tip # 15 - Don't exclude other sources of start up cash

Many people apply for grants who aren't really serious about starting their own business. It is a pipe dream that when push comes to shove, they just don't have the skills or complete finances to actually start and launch their proposed business. And to many grant giving committees, the fact that someone has already received finances from another source - such as through a business loan or line of credit - shows you are actually serious about the business and aren't viewing it as "Well, I'd start it if someone just gave me the money to do it that I never have to pay back."

Many people really only plan on receiving grant money to start a business without investing anything else into it to start it up. While this may work for some low-cost start-ups, in reality, showing that you have made that first step with a loan that you are having to pay back actually shows you as being motivated to start the business and can really sway a grant in your favor. Don't assume they won't give you a grant simply because you have already received some funding - in reality, the opposite is true.
